Enabling new markets

DUAL is helping to make emerging sustainability markets insurable and investable by turning climate and environmental risk into practical underwriting solutions. As demand grows across areas such as natural capital, renewable energy, retrofitting and sustainable buildings, specialist insurance is becoming an important enabler of investment, transactions and long-term resilience.

Alongside product innovation, data and analytics are playing a growing role in how risk is assessed and priced, helping DUAL identify protection gaps, support investment decisions and develop more scalable approaches to evolving risks.

An example is DUAL’s first-of-its-kind insurance product for habitat banks, launched in 2025 to support projects generating biodiversity and carbon credits. Already being used in practice in the UK, including at the Bunloit rewilding project in Scotland, the product helps safeguard biodiversity outcomes, protect the long-term value of nature-based projects and give investors greater confidence. In doing so, it supports funding for emerging markets that might otherwise be harder to deliver.

The Howden Foundation

In our commitment to sustainability, we hold a fundamental belief that a thriving business must prioritise the wellbeing of people, communities and the global environment – both now and for future generations. One of the ways we do this is through our corporate foundation, the Howden Foundation, an independent registered charity that helps communities facing extreme heat and drought prepare, adapt, and recover. Since 2014, we have been proud to support the Howden Foundation, helping it address some of the world's most pressing challenges.
